Lazarus

I met a young man on the Skeleton Coast

(He was) Out on his feet and pale as a ghost

I asked him his name, he said ‘Lazarus, man

I’ve come to this country from a faraway land’

It seems like a lifetime since I came ashore

Might’a been twelve years, it might’a been more

(But) I’ve seen tribulation and it’s clouded my mind

So I can’t quite remember what I’m trying to find

An it’s wind on the ocean and rain on the land

Three drops of water and one grain of sand

I’ll tell you a story as quick as I can

I got nothin’ but time, I’m the Lazarus man

He said, “I woke up one mornin’ feelin’ real strange

By mid-afternoon there was fever and pain

And later that night with some friends at my side

I went off to sleep and I guess that I died

I was stumblin’ and risin’ so I couldn’t quite tell

With one foot in Glory and one foot in Hell

On one side the Garden, on one side the Flame

And I thought I heard someone callin’ my name

Yeah, somebody was saying , “Lazarus arise”

Then I sat up and opened my eyes

I wanted to dance but I didn’t have room

So I threw off the sheets and walked out of the tomb

An it’s wind on the ocean and rain on the land

Three drops of water and one grain of sand

I’ll tell you a story as quick as I can

I got nothin’ but time, I’m the Lazarus man

Now, I been from Nazareth to high Barbary

And I realize that there’s no rest for me

I’ve been through the desert, I’ve been on the deep

But since he bid me rise, I ain’t been to sleep

An it’s wind on the ocean – rain on the land

Three drops of water and one grain of sand

I’ll tell you a story as quick as I can

I got nothin’ but time, I’m the Lazarus man
